The IAEA Wireless Committee Holds its Final Meeting in Vienna

The technical details of the final report were discussed and resolved during this week's meeting at IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Austria, February 13-16, 2018. The report content consists of an overview of nuclear plants around the world, the need for wireless sensing to assure monitoring of key processes and equipment, technologies that enable wireless sensing, and applications.By using wireless technology, sensors can be more inexpensively deployed to monitor components prone to failure, and collect data in a more comprehensive way. The data could be examined post-failure to evaluate if there are any leading indicators to warn of impending failure. Wireless sensors also play an important role in communication of impending safety threats to personnel. Wireless technology was also being considered for post-accident scenarios to reconstruct information and/or assess damage conditions in hgh-radiation areas.
